MATH Movie Trailers

Happy New Year!  First of all, if you’re not following along with Teaching College Math on Twitter, I seriously think that you’re missing out on a lot of good ideas.  Like the one I’m about to suggest to you.  A recent twitter challenge stated:  “Challenge: Make a one-minute trailer (like in the movies) for Algebra that makes students WANT to take it. “.  This is something I’ve been thinking about doing for a while, but I just didn’t know how to put it into words.  I can think of plenty of ways to start this:  1) Possibly use Animoto (it may work if it’s only 1 minute, and not a full-length trailer), 2) Hire a couple of my IADT students to concoct something (I’m sure they could), or 3) Just totally embarrass myself like in (one) of the videos below.  And by the way, I totally cracked up at some point during both of the videos below.  I think I’m going to work on one for my class that starts on Tuesday.  We’ll see how ambitious I am in the new year.  Let’s make it a great one!
