I’ve been cleaning out my office the past couple of months, and this week I came across these resources that may be of use to someone out there – especially teaching statistics, pre-calculus, or calculus!
Article – “Why You Should Read That Whole Text Book Right Now”
“Don’t put it off. You should read that textbook now—or you’re not getting your money’s worth out of your education.”
| Statistics Article – “Overconfident Students, Dubious Employers” Link to Article | Probability Activity “A new study identifies the gaps between graduates’ views of their skills and the views of those who hire them.” Article – “Investing In A World Of Unknown Future Outcomes: The Benefits Of Equal Weighting” Link to Article | Probability Activity Heads and Tails Data Data used to find the probability of at least three heads in five tosses of a fair coin by simulation. Learning Styles Data Data from two groups (Class A and Class B) on their learning styles (Visual, Auditory, Tactile) Binomial Probabilities Handout When to use the Probability Density Function and when to use the Cumulative Distribution Function. |
| Pre-Calculus Investigating Functions This activity asks students to determine the x- and y- intercepts, discontinuous points, asymptotes, domain, and range for a variety of rational and exponential functions. |
| Calculus Calculus U-Substitution Activity This activity asks students to determine whether an integral requires substitution, algebra or a trig identity, nothing, or a technique beyond Calculus I. Integration Techniques Activity This activity asks students to determine which integration technique would be the first step in evaluating an integral: U-substitution, partial fractions, trig substitution, integration by parts, long division, no closed form, or completing the square. List of Functions without Antiderivatives A list of integrals that cannot be expressed in terms of elementary functions. A Checklist for How to Determine which Integration Technique to Use This checklist asks: Is it one of the basic integrals?, Can it be simplified?, Can you use U-Substitution?, Is it a Product?, Is it a Fraction?, Is it an Improper Integral? |
